Therapeutic actions: Diuretic.

Nutrients: Amino acids, tyrosine, tryptophan, arginine, choline, betaine and vitamin B.

Drug interactions: No known drug interactions.

Description: It has been effective in lowering blood sugar levels and can be used (with the concurrence of a doctor) for mild cases of diabetes. Dried pods are particularly to be used in conjunction or rotation with other herbs, such as bilberry, milfoil, dandelion and juniper. These can be taken alone or mixed as a tea.

Internal uses: Bean pod tea has been useful for dropsy, sciatica, chronic rheumatism, kidney and bladder problems, uric accumulations and loss of albumin in the urine during pregnancy.

External uses: Bean meal can also be applied directly to the skin for moist eczema, eruptions and itching. It has been known to promote the healing of ulcers and sores. Prolonged use of the decoction made from the beans is recommended for difficult cases of acne.

Suggested dosage: 5-15 grams daily.

Caution: Do not take while pregnant. Not recommended for those with kidney stones, ulcers, hypoglycemia or manmade organs.
