Origin: USA

Therapeutic actions: Astringent; Tonic; Mild diuretic; Hemostatic.

Nutrients: They contain high amounts of vitamin C.

Drug interactions: No known drug interactions.

Description: The leaf is specific to stomach and intestines.

Internal uses: The roots were boiled by the Catawba’s for diarrhea and the spasmodic phase of whooping cough. Other uses: bleeding, cholera, dysentery, sinus drainage, vomiting, good for colds and gout.

External uses: The leaves, root and bark have all been used for inflammation of the throat, mouth and gums (also bleeding gums), as well as piles, hemorrhoids and leucorrhea.

Suggested dosage: 4.5 grams daily. Tincture 3—4 ml 3 times daily.
