Botanical name: Eupatorium purpureum

Origin: USA

Therapeutic actions: Astringent; Diuretic; Nervine; Relaxant; Stimulant; Tonic.

Description: Its main use is to treat urinary infections and stones/gravel.

Internal uses: Used by the native American Indians as a diaphoretic to induce perspiration and break a fever. It is toning to the reproductive tract and beneficial for prostate inflammation, pelvic inflammatory disease, and menstrual cramping. It has helped to excrete excess uric acid and therefore, used with the treatment of rheumatism and gout. It has been used to treat urinary incontinence in children, cystitis, urethritis and impotence. Other uses: diabetes, headache, hysteria, impotence, indigestion, intermittent fever, sciatica and vomiting.

Caution: Do not use if pregnant or while nursing. Has just recently been put on the FDA’s list of herbs that should not be taken internally.
